The Great Debate
Sixth graders showcased their expertise on the Stone Ages by stepping into the role of archaeologists and “dating” images of ancient relics. Using knowledge gained from our history unit, students identified the who, what, when, where, and why for each artifact. As audience members, classmates then posed academic challenges to test and refine each team’s reasoning—turning the classroom into a lively debate of historical deduction!

Veterans, thank you for your service. JCN held an honorary assembly yesterday to show our appreciation for the courage and sacrifices of all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Our Master of Ceremony was Mr. Moore, former JCN teacher and coach of 37 years and retired member of the Army National Guard. Our guest speaker was Lt. Colonel Don Denmark (Ret.), who in his 27 years served in variety of capacities, to include field artillery, Army aviation and Professor of Military Science at the University of Kansas. Thank you to Leavenworth JR ROTC for presenting the colors. Thank you to Mrs. Larson, Ms. O’Brien and our JCN National Honors Society, as well as Mr. Pi and our HS band, Ms. Sumpter and our HS art students for organizing this special event with such thoughtfulness and heart for our veterans, community and students.

The JCNHS Scholars Bowl team had a busy week. We competed in two JV and Varsity meets at Jeff West on Tuesday and Horton on Thursday. The JV team placed 1st at the Jeff West meet. Both teams performed well at Horton, but didn't make it to finals. Our next meet is a varsity only match at Valley Falls on Monday.

The third grade class was presented dictionaries this week from the ladies of the Pleasant View Grange. This is part of the "Words for Thirds" program. The third graders are excited to own their very own dictionaries now, and they have enjoyed looking at all the great information their dictionaries have to offer.
