While studying the writers and literature of the American Revolution, the Junior English students memorized lines from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." Even though the poem was written and published approximately 80 years after the Revolutionary War, the poet, whose mother was the daughter of a Revolutionary War hero, encourages us to remember "that famous day and year" and that "hour of darkness and peril and need," when the people awakened to hear "the hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, and the midnight message of Paul Revere." Some students chose to dress in costumes and use props to enhance their recitation and their grade. #JCNexcellence

December to Remember
Mrs. Johnson’s Media Design and Communications students teamed up with the Oskaloosa Independent to create the Chargers in the News bulletin board. The Oskaloosa Independent generously donated two copies of the newspaper each week. Students cut out and laminate articles featuring JCN Chargers and add them to the bulletin board in the hallway. The second copy of newspaper is for the students to read. The students have been very excited to read the articles and see who has been “in the news."
