Sixth-grade students dove into vocabulary by using an interactive Frayer Model. Working in groups, each team became “experts” on one assigned vocabulary word and prepared to teach it to the class. Students collaborated to create a definition, identify examples, and list non-examples. Each group member had an assigned role that guided their part of the exploration and deepened their understanding of the word. Finally, using AI, students generated images that represented the concept and illustrated the best interpretation of their word.

While studying the writers and literature of the American Revolution, the Junior English students memorized lines from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere." Even though the poem was written and published approximately 80 years after the Revolutionary War, the poet, whose mother was the daughter of a Revolutionary War hero, encourages us to remember "that famous day and year" and that "hour of darkness and peril and need," when the people awakened to hear "the hurrying hoof-beats of that steed, and the midnight message of Paul Revere." Some students chose to dress in costumes and use props to enhance their recitation and their grade. #JCNexcellence
