🌱 Bond Question #2: Investing in Hands-On Learning

Our Comprehensive Agriculture Science pathway should provide students with meaningful, hands-on experiences growing and studying plants. However, our current classroom lacks the necessary lighting, water access, and plumbing to support these essential learning activities. Bond Question #2 would provide a dedicated space designed for our agriculture program, giving students the opportunity to learn by doing and develop real-world skills that prepare them for future careers. Investing in our students means investing in the spaces they need to succeed! 🌱

Bond Question #2 also includes remodeling the main restroom at JCN High School to provide updated, more functional facilities for students, staff, and visitors. The improvements will address accessibility needs, including ADA-compliant access, to help ensure students with disabilities can use the restroom safely and with greater independence. Updating this essential facility will create a more accessible and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and visitors while bringing the restroom up to current needs and expectations.

Yesterday, the high school cross country team traveled to Jackson Heights for their final regular season meet of the season. We came away with a number of medals, and the team competed well. Girls medalists were Ella Seymour (5th) and Rowan Robey (12th). Boys medalists were Max Kane (2nd), Caliber Beecham (9th), Judah Borg (11th), Riley Ladesic (13th), and Scotty Roloff (14th). The girls placed 3rd as a team and the boys won the meet with a commanding lead. Thank you to all who made it up to Jackson Heights to support our kids. Our next meet is make-or-break - the Substate races at Wabaunsee High School in Alma this Saturday - the teams must either place top 3 in their race, or the runners must be in the top 15 finishers to qualify for the state meet in Wamego next Saturday. Our girls will run in Race 2 around 10:30, and our boys will be Race 3 around 11:00. We hope to see you there!

Bond Question #2 includes the addition of two classrooms at JCN High School to support the district’s two popular Career and Technical Education pathways: Comprehensive Agricultural Science and Web and Digital Communications. More than 60% of JCNHS students are enrolled in an agricultural science course, and nearly 65% participate in a web and digital communications course. These new classrooms will provide appropriately sized, dedicated learning spaces equipped to support hands-on instruction, skill development, and career preparation. This investment will help JCN continue providing relevant educational opportunities that prepare students for college, careers, and the future.

Bond Question #2 allocates $1,535,000 to support career and technical education and improve student facilities at JCN High School. The proposed projects include constructing new agricultural education and web design classrooms at the high school, bringing these programs into the main building, and remodeling the main restroom. These improvements will provide dedicated learning spaces for students to develop practical, career-ready skills while updating essential facilities used by students every day. This investment supports expanded educational opportunities and helps ensure JCN students have access to learning environments that meet their needs now and into the future.

Question #2
JCN invites all community members to attend our second bond information meeting on Tuesday, October 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the high school. This is an opportunity to learn more about the proposed bond projects, get the facts, ask questions, and have your concerns addressed. We believe an informed community is essential to making decisions about the future of our schools. Come hear the details, share your questions, and learn how these projects could impact our students, staff, and community. We look forward to seeing you there!
