Mr. Brendan Stevens

Name:  Brendan Stevens

What do you teach at JCN:  Mathematics

Why did you choose JCN:  Objectively, JCN is a well rated school in Kansas. Teaching in a strong academic environment is important to me. Subjectively I graduated from Jeff Co. I had always felt more at home at our school and school functions than outside of them; as cliche as it sounds, I legitimately feel lucky to call JCN home again.

Where else have you taught? What subject and years?  Free State HS 2012-2013 in Lawrence. I did student teaching there before I graduated college. Highland Park HS 2013-2014 school year. I taught Algebra, Geometry, Analysis and College Algebra between the two.

What is your favorite subject to teach?  Algebra and Calculus. Algebra, the foundation of all higher maths, because within it onwards, studying math gets incredibly interesting. Calculus, on the other hand, because of its modern applications and reliance on Algebra. Kind of makes you feel smart while doing it, too!

What is your hometown?  Winchester

Where did you go to college?  KU

What is your degree in?  Math

Where do you live?  North Lawrence, a few minutes from 6th and Iowa.

Do you have any family? Ex. Spouse, children, pets:  Hahahaha.

Any interesting facts you would like to share?: Favorites: Color is blue. Day of the week is Thursday, because vikings and etymology are cool. Food is puppy chow. TV show is Supernatural or Smallville. Movie is The Matrix. Interesting facts? In my time at JCN, I participated in every extra curricular for at least one year, from football to forensics. I used to talk in Mrs. Gigstad's class and get in trouble for it a lot. But she put up with me because she knew all that hot air was good for playing tuba. In college, I almost majored in art instead of math. Please take an art class. Mrs. Linscott's class is a real pleasure.

Are there any websites that you would like linked to your page?:  Sometimes you need extra help, or to see things (explained) in a different way: https://www.khanacademy.org/math  Sometimes you need to see a problem worked through without all the fluff! https://www.wolframalpha.com/
