King & Queen of Courts 2018

King and Queen of Courts week started out like always with dress-up days. Monday was “I Woke up Like This: Flawless,” which translated too many donning their desired form of pajamas. Tuesday was “Join Us at the Circus,” which featured several mimes, a lion, a fortuneteller, and a ringmaster. Wednesday was Famous Couple day with a pairing of salt and pepper, the Fairly OddParents, and Calvin and Hobbes. Thursday was “Throwback in Time” with a few people decked out in ‘80s attire, and finally Friday came with Extreme Green Day.

On Friday, the students attended a pep rally the last hour of the day. The cheerleaders opened the event with a cheer, and then explained the first game. A single volunteer from each class would stand with a bucket on his or her head. His or her classmates then attempted to toss as many pennies as possible into that bucket. The freshmen class won with seventy-seven pennies in their bucket. After the class game, the King and Queen of Court candidates played two games. The first involved the candidates using plungers to propel him/herself across the floor to his or her partner. After the pairs competed against one another, the winners were determined to be Boston and Sammi. The second candidate game involved finding a cherry in a pie tin of whipped cream. Their partners held the pie tins, and after some shenanigans, Carlee won the girls, while the boys’ race was too close to call.

Following the games, the cheerleaders declared the spirit winners of the week. The winning teacher was Mrs. Linscott, the winning male was Knox Tweed, and the winning female was Rose Wendling. The pep rally concluded with remarks from the seniors on the basketball teams and power club.

The festivities continued that evening with basketball games against Valley Falls. The crowning ceremony took place at half time of the boy’s game. The girl candidates of Jentri Fowler, Sammi Hughes, Carlee Noll, and Annabelle Vaught met up with the boy candidates of Boston Lane, Ridge Robertson, Brayden Summers, and Knox Tweed on the court. After lining up, our announcer, Mr. Moore, announced the new King and Queen of Courts to be Boston Lane and Carlee Noll. Assisting with their crowning was last year’s king, AJ Stutz and queen, Melena Cotto, and crown bearers Asher Hattemer, son of Luke and Krishna Hattemer, and Dylan Keirns, daughter of Casey and Melody Keirns.

The final festivity of the 2018 King and Queen of the Courts was a dance the following evening.
