PowerClub League and State Champions

In any sport, many things are needed to achieve. Powerlifting asks a person to go beyond what they think they can do both physically and mentally. It is a sport of strength, power and speed. The three main lifts are bench press, squat, and clean. Then your total weight is determined on your best lift in the bench press, squat, and clean to determine the overall winner in each weight class.

This season the JCN athletes competed at six meets. With the smallest meet of 110 lifters to the biggest meet of 1,000 lifters. Our athletes presented themselves as winners bringing home many medals, plaques, trophies, and meet records.

JCN hosted the NEKL meet on March 11. This is the first meet we have hosted in several years. Ted Sharp chose the NEKL meet as his senior project. He did an outstanding job preparing and organizing the meet. With the help of parent volunteers, local businesses, teachers and administration the meet was successful. Our thanks to all of them. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams won the meet with many league records set.

Individual girls’ results are: Karisa Schmalz, Champion and Best Lightweight Lifter of the meet; Allie Hofelt, 3rd place;  Sadie Maginness, 2nd place; Emily Handke, Champion; Kaitlyn Schneider, 2nd place; Josie Gerety, Champion; Anabelle Vaught, 3rd place; Arielle Sharp, Champion; Elaina Tweed, Champion,; Emma Tweed, 3rd place; Ravyn Jobbins, Champion; and Grace Kramer, Champion.

I want to thank all the athletes for working hard and believing in the weight program. I want to leave you with this quote from Muhammad Ali: “Champions are made from desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skills and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill."
