Pre-K Happenings at JCN
December 20, 2016
The class of 2030 is off to a wonderful start! On August 29, Jefferson County North Preschool opened their doors to 24 eager children. This school year we have a morning session and an afternoon session where students come for 3 hours a day, five days a week. During this time, we have many skills to develop as we prepare for Kindergarten. These skills include: classroom expectations and routines, what it means to be a friend, how to share, as well as academic skills. Our standards are aligned to Kindergarten through 12th grade state standards. This alignment helps prepare pre-kindergarten students for their transition into Kindergarten. Subjects taught in pre–kindergarten are Physical Heath, Social Emotional Skills, Communication and Literacy Skills, Mathematic Skills, Approaches to Learning (Classroom Skills), Social Studies, Science, and Creative Arts.
Each week we have a new theme as we learn new letters and their sounds. This year we have learned about things we can do, our friends and family, homes and houses, apples, grandparents, community helpers, spiders and scarecrows, Halloween, pumpkins, and leaves. Wow, what a fun and busy year we’ve already had!
Our preschool day is full of music, games, fun, and of course, smiles. We truly enjoy learning and playing together each day. We can’t think of a better place to learn basic skills and prepare for school. We love our “Little Chargers”.
