Homecoming 2011 Celebrated

Homecoming was on September 23 this year, but as usual it started the week before with dress-up days sponsored by the cheerleaders. Monday kicked off the week with “Fashion Disaster Day” and a plethora of mismatching patterns and foot attire. Tuesday was “Game On day”, which involved wearing numerous jerseys and hats touting each individual’s favorite team. A repeat of “Battle of the Sexes” from last year was Wednesday, but this time with guys wearing black and girls wearing pink, the numbers were relatively even. Thursday was “Cowboy Day”, although we did manage to have at least one Indian as well. Finally, as usual, Friday was “Extreme Green Day”, and the school showed its school spirit with JCN attire and as much green as he or she could muster.
That afternoon the entire high school participated in a parade, while the field decorations and school chargers were being judged. When the student body returned, a pep rally commenced where it was announced the sophomores had the best charger and the juniors the best decorations. In addition, the winner of the pie-in-the-face competition, a fundraiser for Stuco, was announced, and Mr. Gish received the honors. The pep rally would not have been complete, however, without class games and candidate games, so these soon were underway. The classes participated in a dance-off, where the candidates showed their extensive athletic talents by participating in a multi-level competition of throwing footballs and eggs, and catching water balloons on their heads in colanders.
The evening activities kicked off with a game against Troy. During halftime, the crowning ceremony commenced with the queen candidates, Emma Bassette, Kate Brickell, Mary Kern, and Jordan Kramer, being driven around the track in cars generously provided by Jim Bodenheimer, Diane Henderson, Kevin Lane, and Ronnie Lane. The queen candidates joined arms with their parents and then met up with the king candidates, Derek Belveal, Calder McAfee, Dalton Minor, and Billy Noll, and their parents. After lining up on the field, Mr. Moore announced last year’s king and queen, Steuart Hensleigh and Anna Kern, and the crown bearers, Calvin Manville and Clara Johnson. Upon arriving at the edge of the field, Mr. Moore ripped open the envelope containing the names of the winners, and announced the 2011 Homecoming King and Queen to be Billy Noll and Mary Kern. The football team then concluded the festivities with an outstanding win.
Following the game, a dance was held from 9:30-11:30 with music provided by Roc Joc DJ.
