Free Second Dose of Varicella Vaccine

Parents don’t miss out on your opportunity to give your child additional protection from chickenpox.  Continuing through the summer while supplies last, you can bring your child age 10-18 into the Jefferson County Health Department to receive his or her second dose of varicella vaccine, free of charge.  The Jefferson County Health Department will offer this vaccination free of charge on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

While the second dose of varicella is not required for this age group, evidence is showing that providing your child with a second dose will help to protect your child from chickenpox.  While most children have received one dose of varicella vaccine, there have been documented cases showing that one dose does not always provide adequate immunity against this disease.

If you have questions regarding this vaccination, you may contact the Jefferson County Health Department at 785-863-2447.
