SNA-KS Awards School Lunch Program, Flory
by Denise Jennings
As you prepare lunches at home this summer for the many mouths that are home from school, are you hoping for a spare jar of peanut butter or a box of mac ‘n cheese in the pantry? Thankfully my own children have gotten to the age they fix their own lunches! Although their lunches of choice may not be as healthy as one might prefer. The school lunch program not only provides a hot meal, but each is a well-rounded nutritious meal.
Our school lunch ladies ensure students are fed a healthy lunch, as well as breakfast if desired. Students are able to choose between the entrée of the day or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Both options are served with milk, salad, and other additions such as vegetables, bread, and dessert. In less than an hour and half, over 300 meals are served at the EMS daily.
Many family and community members attend our annual EMS Thanksgiving Dinner to enjoy a school lunch at its best. Earlier this school year, Mrs. Jeannine Flory wrote and submitted a contest entry to SNA-KS, School Nutrition Association of Kansas. The contest topic was “Celebrate a Theme Day”. Mrs. Flory was one of two winners in the contest! She received a certificate of award for the school and also free admission to a conference sponsored by SNA-KS. We appreciate her effort in sharing about our school lunch success!
Parents, rest assured, as summer draws to end, the lunch ladies at the EMS will be ready to take over the responsibility of filling the bellies of your students! Parents and patrons are welcome to join us for lunch anytime. We appreciate notification in the office by 8:30 a.m. so we can plan for the correct number of meals.
