HS Art Students Have a Busy Year!

by Penny Linscott

July 25, 2010

High school art students had a busy school year.  In February students traveled to Topeka for the Washburn University high school art day.  The day was filled with workshops which the students could participate in and bring completed projects home with them.  Each student who attended also entered an artwork for competition.  Amy Moore received 1st place in the drawing category.

The League art show was in April and was held at Jackson Heights.  Students had the opportunity to attend workshops, enter work for competition and participate in the art history quiz bowl.  Our team placed 2nd in the quiz bowl and 2nd out of 12 schools in art show awards.  Winners are as follows:

Gold medals- Jessica Benner, Colby Kramer, Beth Anne Brickell, Kelsey Deviney (2), Taylor Weishaar, Abby Stephan (2), Landon Noll, and Lacy Noll (2)

Honorable mention- Jessica Benner, Holly Bodenheimer (2), Teresa Noll, Quentin McAfee, Kelsey Deviney, Curtis Brown, Landon Noll, Lacy Noll (4), Gavin Trexler, Katie Noll, and Hailey Sayer

Also in April we attended the Highland Community College high school art show.  Students were also able to attend workshops and enter artwork for competition.  This show features schools from all over Kansas.

The humanities class visited the Nelson-Atkins art gallery in Kansas City, as well as the Kemper Museum of Modern Art.  Students were able to view a variety of art.  Each student chose two art works to research ahead of time and taught the rest of the class about each one as we viewed it.

The Jefferson County North high school art show was held in the commons area May 17.   Everyone in attendance had the opportunity to vote on their favorite artwork in each category.  Winners were:
