Eighth Grade Promotion
by CeCe Noll
The celebration of our annual 8th Grade Promotion was held Tuesday, May 25th. We had 37 eighth graders promoting from the Middle School to continue their learning at the high school level. Family and friends of the promoting eighth graders were greeted at each entrance and given programs by Ethan Hubbard, Briana Page, Zachary Mumford and Rylie Farrar. The programs displayed the class motto “Look Where We’re Going, See Where We’ve Been, Promoting Class of 2010”.
The class entered the gym led by the seventh-grade escorts of Shawn Lane, Jacinta Priest, Ty Jobbins and Lauryn Baker as the sixth and seventh-grade band played “Pomp and Circumstance.” A special thank you to the following parents for providing the balloons that decorated the stage: Lynette Brickell, CeCe Noll, Kelly Jobbins, Shawna Deviney and Lori Navinskey. Also, a special thank you to Kristy Noll and Ann Hutchinson for letting us borrow flowers to help make the stage a little more colorful.
Dr. Marshall welcomed everyone to the promotion, which was followed by Mr. Giltner presenting Heather Polson and Ty Brickell the Citizenship Award sponsored by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. Mr. Paul Becker, on behalf of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, presented the Compassionate Student award to Randi Noll. The following students addressed the audience with poems on their thoughts of their elementary and middle school years that have gone by: Amber McCown, Molly Bassette and Sami Twenhafel; Randi Noll and Laramie Leakey; Jacee Kramer and Mallory Kramer; Shanna Bain and Nicole Ellerman; Kylie Manville and Jamie Navinskey; Bailee Deviney, Hannah Twenhafel and Heather Polson. The following students sang “For Good” from the musical Wicked: Cheyenne Johnson, Cassie Lampen and Alyssa Belveal.
Mr. Giltner then presented the 8th grade students their diplomas with the assistance of school board members Ron Langston, Jim Bodenheimer and Katherine Wolfe, along with Dr. Marshall, Superintendent and Denise Jennings, EMS Principal. Once each student received his or her diploma, the entire class presented the musical number, “You’ve Got A Friend in Me” under the direction of Tammy Gigstad, who also accompanied on the piano. The ceremony concluded with a video presentation produced by the 8th grade technology class. Upon completion of the video, the graduating class of 2014 was presented to the audience.
Mrs. Jennings concluded the evening’s event with a few words of praise and encouragement for the students. As the 6th and 7th grade band members played the school song, the 8th grade students took their final walk in front of family and friends to exit the gym.
Thank-you to all the parents for supporting the school and encouraging your child to be as successful as they can be.
Congratulations to the promoting class of 2010. The staff at the EMS wishes them the best of luck as they continue their education at the high school.
