Jefferson County North Theatre students departed a day earlier than planned to ensure that an incoming snowstorm didn't prevent them from attending the Kansas Thespian State Conference held January 7 through 9 at the Hyatt/Century II complex in Wichita, Kansas. They were not disappointed.
While at the conference the students were able to attend several workshops. Some of the workshops available were: temporary tattoos, African dance, ballroom dancing, stage fighting, sword fighting for the stage, hat making, makeup, acting, music theatre, playwriting, lighting for the stage and many more. Rebecca Jenicke auditioned for college scholarships with great success. State Board member, Phoenix Hutchinson, performed in the opening dance before the Friday evening performance. Mrs. Morgan-Beuchat, sponsor, presented a hat making and makeup workshop and was responsible for choreographing the opening dance. Chaperones Renie Stephan, Ann Hutchinson, and Cathleen Hunter assisted with honor troupe interviews, creative costumes and keeping everyone sane.
We would like to give a special thank-you to the administration for supporting our students in their theatre learning adventures and for making it possible for the troupe to attend the conference.
