JCN's 2009 Homecoming candidates.

Homecoming 2009 Is A Success

by Rebecca Halling

December 08, 2009

September 18, 2009 dawned as a beautiful, sunny, and warm day. The day was not only nice because of the weather, but also because it was the date of the 2009 JCN Homecoming.

Homecoming came bright and early this year, not only because it was in the middle of September, but because the festivities always start on the Monday before Homecoming. The cheerleaders celebrated their traditional “dress-up” week with days such as “Hat Day” and “Color Day,” with participants making sure they followed the theme. On Thursday there was an evening event at the school with class games, candidate games, and a performance by the ever-rousing North Studs. Finally, the day of homecoming came with an afternoon of decorating, a parade through town, and a short assembly to cap the end of the school day.

The evening activities kicked off with a game against Valley Falls. During halftime, the crowning ceremony commenced with the queen candidates being driven around the track by their fathers in cars generously provided by David Claxton, Charlie Erhart, Steve and Peggy Lackey, and Don Lou. The queen candidates then met up with their mothers and then met up with the king candidates and their parents. After lining up on the field, Mr. Moore announced last year’s Queen and King, Monica Cardona and Mathew Perry, and the crown bearers, Layne McAfee and Jack Funk. Upon them arriving at the edge of the field, Mr. Moore ripped open the envelope containing the names of the winners, and announced the 2009 Homecoming Queen and King to be Beth Anne Brickell and Quentin McAfee.

Following the ceremony and game, a dance was held from 9:30-11:30, with music provided by Rivercity Productions.
