Career-Testing Day 2009 Held in March

Career/Testing Day was held this year on March 13th, the day before Spring Break. The day went smoothly except for a few last minute cancellations of career partners for the juniors. We were able to fill in with new career partners for most of these students. I appreciated the assistance from those partners, as well as all the others who assisted in filling these cancellations.
The seniors worked on their Senior Projects, which they presented on April 4th to a committee of two judges and their mentor. Leading up to the project presentation, seniors had to write a 5-7 page paper. They also had to complete a Resume, Job or College Application, two Character Reference letters, and Project Logs.
The juniors spent their day job shadowing a profession of their choice. They had to spend at least a six-hour day on the job, complete an employer interview, and write a job shadow reflection. There was a wider variety of professions chosen this year with the medical profession coming in first. Once again I want to thank all those involved with the juniors on Career Day.
The sophomores and the freshman spent the day taking the MAP Reading and Math tests. The MAP or Measurement of Academic Progress, is a nationally normed assessment used to measure the academic growth from year to year or Fall to Spring. At this time we test Reading, Math, Language Arts in the fall of the year, a two-part Science test is tested in the winter of the year, and we test Reading and Math again in the spring of the year. These scores are normed against about three million other students across the nation. The scores also give us valuable information on where the student will score on the Kansas State Tests and what standards the students need work on.
