2008-'09 Basketball Seasons for Girls' Teams are Successful
by Coach Noll
May 05, 2009
Although we finished a little short of our main goal, the 2008-09 basketball season was a very successful one. The season was filled with many highlights, such as winning the Preseason DVL tournament for the second consecutive year, winning our own Jefferson County North Invitational Tournament, winning the Pleasant Ridge JV tournament for the fourth consecutive year, and also winning the DVL regular season championship. This varsity team became the only team in JCN school history to finish the regular season undefeated at 20-0. We also tied a school record for fewest losses on the season with one.
Along with the team success came many individual honors. Mallory Grand Pre, Amelia Noll and Jordan Kramer were selected by the league coaches to the DVL All League team, as well as being selected as all state honorable mention by the Topeka Capital Journal. Devin Gigstad, Lisa Weishaar and Amelia Noll were selected to play in the Northeast Kansas All Star basketball game at Highland Community College.
The 2008-09 JCN Girls basketball teams were very exciting to watch. The Varsity ended the season with 21 wins and 1 loss. Very few games were easy from the start and a number of games were not decided until the very end. In early December we trailed Oskaloosa by sixteen and came back to win by three. In January, McLouth led by two points with three seconds left and we ended up winning by two, also Horton opened up the game with a ten point lead before we won the game by fourteen. We also had to overcome many injuries and sickness along the way. The JV and Freshmen also had a successful season and continued to provide the strong foundation for our program.
This year's team members were Seniors - Devin Gigstad, Amelia Noll, Lisa Weishaar and Haley Hoffman. Juniors - Sara Navinskey, Mallory Grand Pre, Beth Anne Brickell and Lincoln Kingman. Sophomores - Anna Kern, Katie Noll, Gage Funk, Kelsey Deviney, and Brooke Bengal. Freshmen - Kate Brickell, Jordan Kramer, Mary Kern, Kim Cooper, Emma Bassette, Cindy Clark, Katie Parkey, and Megan Domann. Managers Jeana Eddy and Katie Twenhafel.
I would like to thank the parents for providing food before some of the games, Coaches Kramer and Zule for their help and Mr. McFarland and Mr. Moore for keeping our scorebooks during the season. Without all of your help and support our season would not have been the success that it was.
