MS Track Earns Back-to-Back DVL Titles

by Lee Ann Hartwick

For the second straight year, the middle school track squad won the Overall DVL Championship title. The Chargers were led by the 8th grade girls team, which won their division with 122 points. Individual league champions included Jordan Kramer in the 1600 m run and in high jump, Kate Brickell in the 3200 m run, and the 8th grade girls 4x200 meter relay team composed of Ann Schmidt, Emma Bassette, Breanna Place, and Macie Herrig. Other members of the 8th grade girls team were Grace Arnold, Cindy Clark, Kimberly Cooper, Megan Domann, Mary Kern, Hailey Sayer, Micah Stutz, and Katie Twenhafel. This was the second straight league championship for the girls’ squad, as they also won the league title as 7th graders. The 8th girls’ team placed first in five of the seven meets they participated in.

The 7th grade boys also boasted two league champions: Dustin Fowler and Cory Noll. Fowler won the shot put and Noll won the 800 m run. Both boys squads as well as the 7th grade girls team earned 4th place finishes at the league meet.

Other highlights of the 2008 track season included several new JCN team records. Colby Kramer broke the 8th grade boy’s record in discus with a throw of 133’ 8”, just one inch farther than the previous record held by Chris Hale. 8th grade girls set four team records. Kimberly Cooper improved the long jump mark held by Jessica Seichepine by three inches. Her new record is 15’ 5 1/2”. Jordan Kramer broke two records, each more than ten years old. Kramer now holds the 800 meter run record with a time of 2:38.72 and the High Jump record with a height of 4’10”. Kate Brickell and Mary Kern competed for the 3200 meter record all season. Kern set the new mark first with a time of 13:49, but Brickell set it last and holds the new record with a time of 13:35.

The 7th grade girls’ squad was small but mighty. With only seven participants, the team never placed below fourth at any meet. Scoring leaders for the 7th grade girls were Kayla Higgens, Alison Gaspard, and Kymee Noll, however Ariel Peterson, Morgan Wentz, Erin Wallace, and Allie Courter placed consistently at meets as well.

Point leaders in the other divisions were Kramer, Cooper, and Herrig for 8th grade girls; Noll, Fowler, and Dallas Edwards for the 7th grade boys; and Colby Kramer, Billy Noll, and Dominic Kingman for the 8th grade boys.

Also on the 2008 track squad were: 8th grade boys: Justin Abel, Derek Belveal, Brendan Camblin, Andrew Domann, Joseph Erhart, Jacob Leakey, Calder McAfee, Brett Manville, Mason McMillan, Dalton Minor, Austin Noll, Jared Pemberton, Kyle Polson, James Priest; 7th grade boys: Monte Baker, Skyler Deviney, Johnny Erhart, Sam Gerety, Jacob GrandPre, Nick Irvine, Shane Noll, Tony Peres, Joey Pisachubbe, Cody Rhyne, Levi Wagner, Ryan Weishaar, Andrew Wolfe. The team was assisted by 6th grade managers: Bailey Deviney, Mallory Kramer, Justin Larson, Randi Noll, Heather Polson, Matt Stutz, and Abbie Weishaar.

The track coaches and administration would like to thank all the parents and patrons who helped at the two meets we hosted. We could not host the quality meets we do with out your help. THANK YOU.
