Start planning your senior pictures

By Cindy Johnson

Although it may seem early to you, it is time to start thinking about senior pictures for the 2008-09 yearbook. Because the color deadline is a very serious one for the yearbook staff, we would appreciate your cooperation in making the photography procedure run smoothly. As such, we would like to provide you with the following information and a few examples.

Several area photography studios have package options for senior photos. Most of these packages include a sitting fee, several poses, proofs, and photographs. If you prefer, yearbook staff members can also take a digital photograph that can be submitted. Please let the photographer of your choice know the JCN guidelines.

The senior photo requirements are as follows:

Students must provide the school with four wallet-sized photos. One photo will be for the yearbook, one for the composite wall panel, one will be for the Oskaloosa Independent, and one for the Atchison Globe. These pictures will not be returned.

• Photos must have a simple background without props.
• Photos will be head and shoulder shots only. Please do not have your hands on your face.
• Photos must be vertical.
• Dress must meet the dress code outlined in the student handbook.
• Glamour Shots are not acceptable.
• Portraits must be turned in by Nov. 14.
• Portraits not received by Nov. 14 may not be included in the yearbook.

Additionally, you may purchase a senior salute in the spring. A senior salute is an opportunity for you to compose a message for your senior and include a photograph if desired. In January, you will receive a letter explaining the procedure and the deadline will be in February. As soon as the senior salutes are completed, pictures will be returned.

If you have any questions, please free to contact a staff member at 913.774.8515. The yearbook staff is looking forward to working with you to create another award-winning JCN yearbook.
