April 16, 2008 Site Council Minutes
Tammy Noll, Chairman, called the JCN High School Site Council meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. on April 16, 2008 in the High School Library. Members present were Rick McFarland, Tammy Noll, Peggy Mailen, Gary Bedigrew, Joye Huston, Mark Wilson and Elizabeth Finley. There was no representative from the Student Council.
The minutes of the February 20, 2008, meeting were e-mailed to each member of the council and published in the JCN Update. The minutes were approved as submitted.
Communications:
Conversations
with a McLouth High School patron centered around investigating the
possibility of MHS and JCN having a combined wrestling team. Mr.
Bedigrew advised that for a combined athletic team, both schools
have to be in agreement and that the host school would then be
bumped up to a higher classification thus competing against larger
schools.
Rick McFarland, high school counselor, reported that the ASVAB testing was given to the sophomores; scholarship information was given to the seniors in March and applications are due May 2nd; The Scott Slava Memorial Scholarship is a new scholarship this year; and due to scheduling and timing issues, the National Honor Society inductions will be held next fall.
Gary Bedigrew gave a Principal’s Report. Some of the highlights of this report are:
Seventy-four students attended the State FBLA Leadership Conference in Topeka on March 27 & 28. Seven students qualified to go on to Nationals and there are two new state officers from JCN: Matthew Finley – Vice President, Beth Anne Brickell – Historian
The state testing and MAP tests have been completed.
Senior Projects have been presented and are completed with the exception of three students. These students’ products were not complete at the time of presentation for various reasons but should be done soon.
The High School Band trip to Dallas went well. The band will compete at the State Band Day on April 17th. Eighteen students qualified to go to the State Solo Competition on April 26th.
The DVL voted 12-0 to admit ACCHS and Maur Hill into the league in two years. This will make 14 teams in the League for the 2009-2010 school year. Track has officially begun. Abraham Noll will compete at the KU relays.
Curriculum possibilities are continuing to be investigated by the administration and were discussed.
Old Business: There are still responses needed from the graduate surveys which are to be tabulated and turned in to Mr. Bedigrew.
New Business: Elections were held and the following officers were voted into office:
President: Tammy Noll
Vice-President: Mark Wilson
Secretary: Rick McFarland
The next meeting of the site council will be in September, 2008, depending on the KU Honors ceremony in September.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 pm.
